Michael
David DeShazer, a chemical engineering sophomore has recently
been named to Omicron Delta Kappa’s “Top Ten
Freshman”. Michael will be honored during half time
of the TU homecoming Football game against Boise State on
October 16, 2004.
“Top 10 Freshman” applicants were judged on the basis of Academics,
Activities and Volunteering. The students submitted applications. Twenty students
were chosen for interviews and finally 10 were chosen to represent the University
of Tulsa.
Michael is a Chemical Engineering major and has maintained above a 3.8
GPA. He has done research in a new field called Nanotechnology. He has
worked on developing processes for the production of anodic alumina membranes
and has explored different aspects of making nano and micro arrays of
nanobatteries to be used in non-volatile memory storage devices. These
nanoarrays could eventually replace computer hard drives giving a much
larger storage capacity.
Michael is also the Vice-President of TU’s AIChE student chapter.
He attended the national convention last year is San Francisco and he
helped plan the regional convention that was hosted by TU last spring.
This November he will be attending the next national convention in Austin.
Michael has also been very active in University Ambassadors a program
that shows prospective students around campus and also hosts recruitment
events. Michael was nominated to be “best baby ‘bassador” AKA
best first year ambassador.
Michael’s Future plans are some what unsure however he has expressed
great interest in research based engineering especially in physical chemistry
and nanotechnology.
Congratulations Michael! |
