MATH 4123 Linear Algebra and Matrix Theory

Catalog Description: System of linear equations, eigenvalues, eigenvectors, finite dimensional vector spaces, and linear transformations with applications. Computational tools are used extensively.
Prerequisites: Math 2024 (Calculus II)
Corequisites: None
Prerequisites by Topic: Two semesters of calculus
Textbook: Matrix Analysis and Applied Linear Algebra, by Carl D. Meyer

Course Objectives: The objective of this course is to present the contemporary theory and applications of linear algebra to students studying mathematics, engineering, or applied science at the postcalculus level supported by advanced computational tools.

- Rectangular Systems and Echelon Forms
- Matrix Algebra
- Vector Spaces
- Norms, Inner Products, and Orthogonality
- Determinants
- Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors
Class/Laboratory Schedule: Three fifty minutes classes per week.
